About Sofan
Exotic East is where I am from, growing up in the chaotic Hong Kong of over 7 millions of earthlings, my playgrounds were the temples, wet-markets, crowded streets and jungly back hills behind the concrete highrises. It helped me to develop some of my superpowers - to turn chaos into order, difficulties into peace, dwelling in the inner silence to soften the external symphonies of noises.
After leaving my home country where I worked as an interior designer, I went to study art in The Art Institute Of Chicago for some Soul-searching before then moving to Australia where I graduated with a Masters in Applied Buddhist Studies, really I tried to dig myself out of my very own human conditions that were not very pretty.
Falling in love to the Australian spacious wilderness and a wild Australian man; it led me to a couple years were well-spent on one-long road trip circumferencing this precious land and to live like Henry Thoreau in the Walden Pond, a simple cottage with no electricity, no running water, no flushing toilet; in a word, no comforts of the modern world for another few years. This experience helped me to develop my superpowers in growing my own vegetable, flowers and fruit trees; tending my horses and riding to town rather than driving the car; living simply with what I have rather than going to the shop; loving my own company and creating art to bring out my inner essence in the wilderness for myself. Once I finished my initiation to the Australian life-style, I moved back to Sydney and lived on a tiny island on the Hawkesbury River in the early 2000 and has been working as a professional artist since. De-tours were many, being a mother, renovating a country pub, this list is long and weary; nonetheless these lived experiences contribute to who I am today.
My Soulfantastic paintings have an easily recognizable, unique style filled with vibrant, happy colors and flowing lines. They are my inner expressions of the Buddha Nature that I am forever seeking. My original oil paintings and limited edition prints are now proudly displayed in a wide variety of collections around the world. OMG, I am not bragging at all, I am just showing you my my tumbles and falls, the determination from the mysterious place that has been nudging me on and never judging what I did and did not do. I am sure you have the same experiences like me, keep walking toward a mysterious path that are strange to us all.
